A Blessing in Disguise
Friday, February 15, 2013 | 0Superstar (s)!

People experience a thing called `blessing in disguise’. It is when something unfortunate happens to you yet some time later, a greater opportunity comes. It is a form of blessing through some hardships. It just disguises itself as some bad luck, that’s why it’s called that way. And ever since this world began, it has always happened.

Troy’s fall speaks of ultimate victory through terrible loss. You may be thinking of how that is supposed to happen. Have you already forgotten blessing in disguise? It was a tragic defeat for the Trojans to lose their homeland and even their friends who died in the war. But it was a blessing in disguise if you look on the bright side. Troy may have fallen, but it served as an opportunity to find a better place for the Trojans to live in. And then, they founded Rome. They lived with freedom after a traumatic event that they experienced.

With hope, they continued their journey. And with faith, they moved on with their lives. They might have been defeated once, but their belief in such a blessing caused them to act as one.

What Do You Think?
Saturday, August 18, 2012 | 0Superstar (s)!

From the time I first went to school, English has always been the medium of instruction. And as far as I can remember, I had no Filipino subject when I was in preparatory school. English was the first language subject taught to the students. But, is it better than having a mastery of our native language first?

English is the most widely used language in the world. It is sometimes described as the first global lingua franca or working language. It is the international language of communications, science, information technology, business, seafaring, aviation, entertainment, radio and diplomacy. So, a working language of English or at least a basic knowledge of it has become a requirement in many fields, occupations and professions across the globe.

It is very important to learn English since having a knowledge of it can lead you to a reasonable and dignified job. Moreover, speaking in proper English can make a person sound smart. Although, based on studies, having a mastery of the mother tongue or the native language first will have a better effect on learning the English language since translation is essential in language learning.

Nevertheless, I don’t see any harm if someone’s first language is English rather than his mother tongue. But still, it is important that he must learn how to speak his native language fluently. It is not just in order to have better translation skills. It can be, at least, a sign of respect and a sense of pride for the country he originally belongs to. We wouldn’t want our own language to fade away, yes?

My Father, My Dad

*Please pause first the music embedded in my blog before playing this song. ^_^

"Any man can be a father. It takes someone special to be a dad."
A strong man with a wise mind and a pure heart - this is how I describe my dad.  For fourteen years of my life, my father is always there for me. He never left our side, nor he neglected his responsibilities. He undoubtedly plays his role as my father, and at the same time, a friend. I cannot avoid the fact that I am sometimes scolded by my father because that's just how it works. He is responsible in disciplining his children. He is sometimes scary when he's angry. But putting that aside, he is a very humorous person. He never fails to make us laugh to our heart's content. And he never stops doing it. But the best thing I admire about him is his decisive attitude and his wisdom. He knows how to weigh out situations so he can decide for the best. And he always succeeds to give us his words of wisdom.

There are many things that my father does to our family. As what typical fathers do, he works for a living. He tries his best to make our life comfortable and I know that his hard work is not going to waste. He does not only give me the basic things I need, but also the luxuries I want. However, there are still certain conditions before I gain them. We are not that rich to just spill money easily so to obtain what I want, I have to work for it. And I believe that doing my best serves as a token of gratitude for what my father has done to me.

Last Sunday we celebrated Father's Day to give tribute to our wonderful fathers or dads or whatever you call them. But though it might have come to an end, the celebration to thank my dad will never cease. He deserves more than one day to recognize his worth. He deserves a lifetime of receiving gratitude. From the time I was born, I have loved him.  And as long as I live, I will love him more.
